New Shipping Containers

Called single-trip rather than new, because they are built overseas and loaded once on the voyage out. That is as new as a shipping container gets in Australia — nobody manufactures them here.

* What "from" means. Every figure on this site is a "from" price: the starting point for that size in that grade, in Australian dollars, ex GST, ex depot. It is not a quote. Condition, availability at your nearest depot and the grade you actually need all move it, and delivery is quoted separately because it depends entirely on where the container is going.

Being straight about it

A single-trip unit will usually have a few scuffs from that one voyage and from being handled at both ends. It is not a car showroom finish and anyone promising you one is setting you up for a disappointing delivery day. What you are actually buying is a sealed, unpatched, unrusted box with clean floors and doors that shut properly.

When this grade is the right buy

Worth the premium when the container is going somewhere visible, when you are lining or fitting it out and want to start from square steel, when it is holding something that cannot get damp, or when you expect to resell it in a few years. Not worth it for a paddock, a building site or a tool store.

New — common questions

What does new actually mean?

Called single-trip rather than new, because they are built overseas and loaded once on the voyage out. That is as new as a shipping container gets in Australia — nobody manufactures them here. A single-trip unit will usually have a few scuffs from that one voyage and from being handled at both ends. What you are actually buying is a sealed, unpatched, unrusted box with clean floors and doors that shut properly.

How much is a new container?

A new 20ft starts at $3,300 ex GST and a 40ft at $5,500, ex depot, as at 03/08/2026. Delivery is quoted separately.

Is it sold watertight?

Yes. Every cargo-worthy unit is checked wind and watertight before it leaves the depot, and new single-trip units are sealed. That check is about rain arriving from above, which is what a container has to deal with once it is sitting on your ground.

Can I see the actual unit before it arrives?

Yes. Photos of the actual container are available on request and sent before delivery. That matters most in used grades, where two structurally sound units can look very different from each other.
