Shipping containers Ballina

Ballina and the Northern Rivers are served down the Pacific Highway from the Brisbane depots — about 180 km, and one of the more straightforward long runs we do. The variety here is in the ground rather than the distance: cane flats, coastal sand, hinterland acreage and tight beachside streets, all within half an hour of each other.

Grades matter, and this is where a cheap container gets expensive. Cargo-worthy is the grade we check wind and watertight before it leaves the depot. As-is units are cheaper again and are not sold watertight — they may carry a patched repair, a soft spot in the floor or a door seal that no longer seats, and we will tell you exactly what is wrong with one before you buy it. New single-trip units are sealed and unmarked. If a container has to keep rain off what is inside it, buy cargo-worthy or better.

The jobs a container does in Ballina

Across Ballina the common uses are storage on the cane and macadamia country through Alstonville, Wardell and Meerschaum Vale, site storage on the builds around Lennox Head, Skennars Head and West Ballina, marine and boat gear near the river and the breakwall, trade storage across the industrial land at Southern Cross and Russellton, and household storage through a district that renovates constantly.

Sand, cane flats and where the container actually sits

More Northern Rivers deliveries are complicated by ground conditions than by street width, and it is worth thinking about a week before the truck rather than on the morning. Sand near the coast and the low flats behind the town both look perfectly solid and both give way under a concentrated load — which is exactly what a container corner casting or a crane pad is.

The practical answers are cheap. Put the unit on something that spreads the load at all four corners, choose a spot on the highest firm ground rather than the most convenient one, and if it has rained heavily, wait. None of that requires a dearer grade of container; it requires ten minutes of thought about where it goes.

What the run down from Brisbane costs

About 180 km of highway puts most Ballina addresses in the second delivery band, so budget above a Brisbane metro number and below a long-haul one. It is a busy corridor with regular freight on it, which keeps the pricing sensible, and flexibility on the date helps here as it does everywhere.

The container price does not change with the postcode — used cargo-worthy 20ft from $2,200 ex GST, new single-trip from $3,300. Only the cartage moves, and we quote it against your address rather than your town.

Delivery access in and around Ballina

Three quite different delivery problems inside one postcode. The industrial estates at Southern Cross and Russellton and the hinterland acreage behind Alstonville are easy — wide entries, room to line up, firm ground. The coastal streets are not: Lennox Head, East Ballina and the older streets near the river have narrow frontages, cars both sides, established figs and pandanus over the road and low services on timber poles. And then there is the ground itself. Coastal sand runs a long way back from the beach and the cane flats behind the town are low-lying and hold water for days after rain — both look firm and neither necessarily carries a loaded truck or four crane pads. Block the unit up properly on its corner castings and choose the firmest line onto the property rather than the shortest. Photos of the gate, the approach and the spot answer nearly everything.

Common to every job wherever it is: something firm underneath, enough length to line up, and open air above the placement. Where that is in doubt we would rather look at photographs than guess. Full detail in how delivery is priced.

Ballina — common questions

How much is a shipping container in Ballina?

Used cargo-worthy 20ft from $2,200 ex GST, new single-trip from $3,300, used 40ft from $2,600. Units come down from the Brisbane port depots, roughly 180 km, and the cartage is quoted separately against your actual address rather than your town. Ring 1300 639 282.

Do you deliver to Lennox Head, Alstonville and Wardell?

Yes — the whole Ballina district is on the same run. Access varies enormously across it, from wide hinterland drives to narrow beachside streets where a crane truck is the only realistic vehicle, so send photos of the entry and the placement spot with your enquiry and we will confirm the truck before quoting.

The ground here is soft. Does that matter?

Quite a lot. Coastal sand and the low cane flats both look firm and neither reliably carries a loaded truck or a crane pad, particularly after rain. Block the container up at all four corners on something that spreads the load, pick the firmest approach rather than the shortest, and if it is genuinely wet, waiting a few days is far cheaper than a recovery.
