Shipping containers Sunshine Coast

The Sunshine Coast is a roughly 110 km run north from the Brisbane depots, and it is one of the most consistent markets we deal with — split almost evenly between hinterland acreage where delivery is simple and a coastal strip where it very much is not.

Grades matter, and this is where a cheap container gets expensive. Cargo-worthy is the grade we check wind and watertight before it leaves the depot. As-is units are cheaper again and are not sold watertight — they may carry a patched repair, a soft spot in the floor or a door seal that no longer seats, and we will tell you exactly what is wrong with one before you buy it. New single-trip units are sealed and unmarked. If a container has to keep rain off what is inside it, buy cargo-worthy or better.

Where Sunshine Coast containers end up

In and around Sunshine Coast the containers mostly go to storage on the hinterland acreage through Beerwah, Landsborough, Palmwoods and the Blackall Range, site storage on the builds at Caloundra South, Aura and Palmview, trade storage across the industrial land at Kunda Park, Coolum and Warana, board and marine gear along the coast, and dry storage for the small-crop and nursery country behind the range.

Acreage buyers and why the 40ft is worth a look

A lot of the hinterland enquiries start out asking about a 20ft and end up on a 40ft, and the numbers are the reason. A used cargo-worthy 20ft starts at $2,200 ex GST; a used 40ft starts at $2,600. Double the volume for about four hundred dollars more is not a close call when you have the room.

The place that money reappears is the delivery. A 40ft needs a longer run-in and a bigger vehicle, and on a hinterland block with a curved or steep drive that can be the deciding factor. If you are weighing the two up, measure the straight run available at the placement spot first and let that decide the size — not the other way round.

What the run up from Brisbane means for the total

About 110 km of highway puts most Sunshine Coast addresses in the second delivery band rather than the metro one, so budget above a Brisbane number for the cartage. It is still a well-travelled route with regular traffic on it, which keeps it sensible.

Where a date is flexible, say so. A container going out on a truck already heading north costs less than a dedicated run, and on this corridor there are a lot of trucks already heading north.

The delivery realities in Sunshine Coast

Hinterland acreage is the easy half — long drives, room to turn, ground that generally carries a truck outside the wet. The two things to watch there are the grade of the drive itself and low branches, because a lot of those approaches were cut for a car rather than a rigid truck with a container on the back. The coastal strip is the difficult half. Alexandra Headland, Mooloolaba, Buddina and the older streets behind Maroochydore have short frontages, cars parked both sides and mature street planting, and a good share of the addresses are units or duplexes with a marked bay rather than a yard. Then there is the sand, which runs a long way inland and looks firm right up until a concentrated load stands on it. That matters most when a crane truck is trying to set four pads. Send photos of the entry, the run in and the spot and we will settle the vehicle before quoting.

Wherever you are, the vehicle wants the same basics — a surface that will not give way, an unobstructed approach and nothing over the placement point. Pictures of the gateway and the intended spot answer nearly every question we would otherwise ask. More on the delivery page.

Sunshine Coast — common questions

How much is a shipping container on the Sunshine Coast?

Used cargo-worthy 20ft from $2,200 ex GST, new single-trip from $3,300, used 40ft from $2,600. Units are trucked about 110 km north from the Brisbane port depots and the cartage is quoted separately against your actual address — expect it to sit above a Brisbane metro figure. Ring 1300 639 282 for both numbers together.

Can a truck get up a hinterland driveway?

Often, but the drive is worth checking before you order rather than on the day. Many hinterland approaches were built for a car — too steep, too tight a curve or too low under the branches for a rigid truck carrying a container. Photographs of the entry, the steepest point and the intended spot let us pick the right vehicle in advance.

Is a 20ft or a 40ft better value here?

On volume, the 40ft, comfortably — $2,600 used against $2,200 for a 20ft, for double the space. On delivery, the 20ft, because it needs far less room to place. On acreage the 40ft usually wins; on a coastal block it usually does not.
