Used Shipping Containers

Cargo-worthy is the grade that does the work. It means a unit still certified fit to carry freight at sea — structurally sound, doors operating, floor intact — and every cargo-worthy unit is checked wind and watertight before it leaves the depot.

* What "from" means. Every figure on this site is a "from" price: the starting point for that size in that grade, in Australian dollars, ex GST, ex depot. It is not a quote. Condition, availability at your nearest depot and the grade you actually need all move it, and delivery is quoted separately because it depends entirely on where the container is going.

Being straight about it

It will look used, because it is. Expect surface rust, patch repairs, a repaint here and there, dents in the side panels and somebody else's shipping line still on the doors. None of that affects whether it keeps rain out. If the way it looks matters to you, that is a legitimate reason to buy new — it is just not a structural one.

When this grade is the right buy

The default choice for storage of almost any kind. If what is going inside needs to stay dry and you are not paying for looks, this is the grade to buy and there is very little argument for anything else.

Cargo-worthy — common questions

What does cargo-worthy actually mean?

Cargo-worthy is the grade that does the work. It means a unit still certified fit to carry freight at sea — structurally sound, doors operating, floor intact — and every cargo-worthy unit is checked wind and watertight before it leaves the depot.

How much is a cargo-worthy container?

A cargo-worthy 20ft starts at $2,200 ex GST and a 40ft at $2,600, ex depot, as at 03/08/2026. Delivery is quoted separately.

Is it sold watertight?

Yes. Every cargo-worthy unit is checked wind and watertight before it leaves the depot, and new single-trip units are sealed. That check is about rain arriving from above, which is what a container has to deal with once it is sitting on your ground.

Can I see the actual unit before it arrives?

Yes. Photos of the actual container are available on request and sent before delivery. That matters most in used grades, where two structurally sound units can look very different from each other.
