Shipping containers Rockhampton

Rockhampton is the market where the published container price matters least and the freight matters most, and pretending otherwise would waste your time. It is roughly 600 km from the Brisbane depots. On a run that long the truck is often the larger half of what you pay, and there is no honest way to publish a single figure for it.

Grades matter, and this is where a cheap container gets expensive. Cargo-worthy is the grade we check wind and watertight before it leaves the depot. As-is units are cheaper again and are not sold watertight — they may carry a patched repair, a soft spot in the floor or a door seal that no longer seats, and we will tell you exactly what is wrong with one before you buy it. New single-trip units are sealed and unmarked. If a container has to keep rain off what is inside it, buy cargo-worthy or better.

What they get used for around Rockhampton

Rockhampton enquiries usually turn out to be about feed, chemical and machinery storage on the cattle country out through the Capricornia, site and tool storage for the mining and services operators running out to the Bowen Basin, dry storage on the properties west towards Emerald and Blackwater, secure storage at the industrial addresses around Parkhurst and Gracemere, and household storage through the constant movement of a service-town population.

Being straight about freight on a 600 km run

Our container prices are national and they do not change because you are further from a port — a used cargo-worthy 20ft still starts at $2,200 ex GST. What changes is the delivery, and on a Rockhampton run it can rival or exceed the container itself.

We would rather say that plainly than sell you a low headline price and let you discover the rest at quoting time. The two figures are quoted together, up front, and if the total does not stack up for you then it does not stack up and you have lost nothing but a phone call.

Flexibility on the date is worth real money here

This is the single biggest lever you have on a long-haul delivery. A container going north on a truck that is already heading that way costs materially less than a dedicated run, and on the Bruce Highway corridor there is a steady flow of freight moving.

If your date is flexible by a week, say so at the enquiry — it often changes the number meaningfully. If it is fixed, say that too, because then we quote a dedicated run and you get an accurate figure rather than an optimistic one that slips.

Buy the size you actually need up here

On a long run the freight is largely a function of the vehicle and the distance rather than what is on the back, which slightly changes the usual advice. If you are on the fence between a 20ft and a 40ft and you have the room, the 40ft is often the better economics on this corridor, because you are paying the long haul either way.

The reverse also applies. Two separate 20ft deliveries six months apart means paying the Rockhampton run twice. If you know you will want more space later, it is worth pricing it now.

Getting a truck in around Rockhampton

Delivery around Rockhampton itself is generally simple — flat country, wide industrial entries, and rural blocks with plenty of room to line a truck up. Two things are worth flagging. The older parts of town, particularly the streets around the CBD and the high-set houses on the north side, are narrow-fronted with mature trees and low services, and behave like a city delivery. And the ground west of town takes a very long time to dry after the wet: black soil that carried a road train in September will not carry a rigid truck in February. If your placement spot is off the hardstand and it has rained, a week's patience is much cheaper than a recovery.

Standard requirements sit on top of the local quirks — a surface that holds weight, an unobstructed approach, and no wires, limbs or awnings overhead. If you are unsure, photographs let us confirm the vehicle before quoting. The list is on the delivery page.

Rockhampton — common questions

How much is a shipping container in Rockhampton?

The container prices are national: used cargo-worthy 20ft from $2,200 ex GST, new single-trip from $3,300, used 40ft from $2,600. The delivery is the variable — it is roughly 600 km from the Brisbane depots and on that run freight is quoted per job rather than off a table. Ring 1300 639 282 with the address and the date and you will get both numbers together.

Why can't you just publish a delivery price to Rockhampton?

Because it genuinely moves. A backloaded run and a dedicated truck to the same address are very different numbers, and so are a hardstand delivery in Gracemere and a soft paddock 80 km west of it after rain. Publishing one figure would mean either overcharging most people or under-quoting and adding to it later. We do neither.

How long does delivery take up here?

Typically five to ten business days, and it depends on freight movements as much as on stock. If you can be flexible on the date it is usually quicker and cheaper; if the date is fixed we will quote a dedicated run so the figure holds.
